COMPARING SUBTRACTION DIFFERENCES

Let's take a minute to look at the ideas of "less than", "greater than", and "equal to". Throughout math, you will be comparing two values. You will need to understand that one is greater, less, or equal to the other. A number is "less than" when it is smaller. A number is "greater than" when it is larger. Numbers are equal when they have the same values.

This activity compares the differences of two subtraction problems. Your first step will be to solve the problems and then you need to compare the differences. This activity works with two-digit numbers that use the borrowing function. Here's an example:
25 - 6 = 19
23 - 8 = 15
When you compare the differences you will see that nineteen (19) is greater than fifteen (15). The final answer would be:
25 - 6 is greater than than 23 - 8 OR 25 - 6 > 23 - 8

Good luck and have fun.

DIRECTIONS

This type of activity challenges you to compare two values. You will be asked which value is greater or smaller for each question. Compare the two choices and click one of the center buttons. Those buttons will offer you the options of "Less Than", Equal To", and "Greater Than." Just click on the button with the correct answer. The next screen will show you the right answer.

You get a happy face for every correct answer and a sad face for every wrong answer. The quiz is over after ten (10) questions. Take the quiz again and again because all of the questions are random. Chances are, you'll get a new quiz every time. It's good practice to learn these basic arithmetic comparisons.
