Pick-a-Card: Telling Time Without Numbers

Telling time is one of the most important skills you will ever learn. You need it to relax when you are watching television and you need it when you go to work or school in the morning. This activity uses analog clocks to work on your time skills. These clocks have two hands, twelve numbers, and a round face.

Each time the minute hand (the longer one) moves around the dial, an hour has passed. Every notch on the clock represents one hour (1 to 12). The minutes work in blocks of five. If you see the hour hand (short one) pointing at a 3 and the long hand (minutes) pointing at the 9, you know the time is 3 hours and 9x5 minutes. It's 3:45.

We also work with general values in this quiz. Here are some of the abbreviations you will see:
Quarter After (Past): Fifteen minutes past the hour. (Quarter after three = 3:15)
Half Past: Thirty minutes past the hour. (Half past four = 4:30)
Quarter To: Fifteen minutes before the next hour. (Quarter to eight = 7:45)

Good luck and have fun.

Directions

This is one of the NumberNut four-card activities. Your question will be displayed at the top of the screen. Under that question, you will see four (4) possible answers. Just click on the card with the correct answer. The next screen will show you the correct answer.

You get a happy face for every correct answer and a sad face for every wrong answer. The quiz is over after ten (10) questions. Take the quiz again and again because all of the questions are random. Chances are, you'll get a new quiz every time. It's good practice to learn these basic arithmetic operations.
