Looking at the Thousands Column

Example:
459 - 4 in the hundreds, 5 in the tens, and nine in the ones.
723 - 7 in the hundreds, 2 in the tens, and 3 in the ones.
Some Sample Series
Just remember that when you move from "9" to a "0" the number in the column to the left increases by one value. Let's look at some example series...18, 19, 20, 21
88, 89, 90, 91
And now with values over 100...
118, 119, 120, 121
188, 189, 190, 191
478, 479, 480, 481
628, 629, 630, 631
And with values that cross the hundreds borders. Look at the way the number in the hundreds column goes up one and the rest of the numbers turn to "0."
98, 99, 100, 101, 102
298, 299, 300, 301, 302
598, 599, 600, 601, 602
898, 899, 900, 901, 902
And finishing off the even thousand (1,000) you just need to add a one in the thousands column to the left.
996, 997, 998, 999, 1,000
Looking at the Words
This is also easy stuff if you mastered naming numbers from one to one hundred. When you deal with numbers between one hundred (100) and one thousand (1,000) you will just need to add a hundreds value before the rest of your number. If you're dealing with even hundreds it's like this...100 - One hundred.
200 - Two hundred (not hundreds).
500 - Five hundred.
800 - Eight hundred.
Now just add what you already know about naming numbers. You know that "53" is "Fifty-three." So "253" is "Two hundred fifty-three." Using the examples above, look at these...
148 - One hundred forty-eight.
273 - Two hundred seventy-three.
510 - Five hundred ten.
888 - Eight hundred eighty-eight.
